Instituted in 1954, the Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honours. The three tiers — Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri — recognise distinguished service of varying orders across diverse spheres of human activity. The awards are traditionally announced on the eve of Republic Day and presented by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan in a ceremonial function held in March or April.
